9th International Day of Yoga
The Embassy of India celebrated 9th International Day of Yoga on 17 June 2023 along with a large gathering of yoga enthusiasts at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta with a unique and special theme of the "Ocean Ring of Yoga" onboard Indian Naval Ship Shivalik. Similar yoga celebrations with the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” were also held at Beacon Academy, Jakarta on 18 June 2023. The IDY celebrations will continue at Taman Suropati, Jakarta on 24 June, Surabaya on 24 June, and Yogyakarta on 25 June. PPYNI (Indonesian National Association of Yoga Practitioners), YogaFit, and Art of Living also supported the efforts.
2.The United Nations adopted June 21 as the International Day of Yoga on December 10, 2014 which led to the 1st International Day of Yoga celebrations on 21 June 2015. A series of activities are organised across the globe every year to celebrate Yoga - the ancient wisdom of holistic health and well-being. Millions of people including world leaders, international celebrities, spiritual gurus, writers, artists, and people from every walk of life participate in the celebrations.
3.Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, who was the inspiration behind declaring June 21st as the International Day of Yoga, traditionally leads a massive gathering of yoga practitioners in performing a standard yoga protocol. He will be leading yoga celebrations this year at United Nations Secretariat, New York.
4.INS Shivalik, which is a part of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet, joined the yoga enthusiasts to celebrate this occasion at Jakarta. INS Shivalik is the first in its class of Project-17 indigenous multi-role frigates constructed in India. As a part of Hon’ble PM Modi's vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), the Indian Navy remains focused on its task of being deployed in various parts of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and beyond, which has resulted in it becoming the first responder and preferred security partner in the IOR.
5.Oceans unite the whole humanity. In India’s continuous efforts to build Bridges of Friendship through the oceans and seas that join us, the unique goodwill visit by INS Shivalik is aligned with this year's IDY concept of the Ocean Ring of Yoga. This event has provided the Indian Government a platform to engage with the Indonesian friends to spread the message of 'Yoga for One, Yoga for All' based on the ancient Indian thought and theme of current G20 Presidency 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" - One Earth - One Family - One Future.
