INDIAN PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION VISITS INDONESIA

 

A 13-member Indian Parliamentary Goodwill Delegation led by Hon’ble Mr. Ravi Prakash Verma, Member of Parliament, in on visit of Indonesia from 14-18 April 2016. The delegation held meetings at House of Representative (DPR) and Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia on 14 April 2016 and with H.E. Mr. A M Fachir, Vice Foreign Minister of Republic of Indonesia on 15 April 2016. At DPR, Hon’ble Mr. Tantowi Yahya, Vice Chairman of Commission 1 of DPR & Head of Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation received the Indian Parliamentary Goodwill delegation at his office in Nusantara building. Later in the day, the delegation had meeting with H.E. Mr. Irman Gusman, Chairman of DPD and his other members of parliament.

 

Both the sides acknowledged the role of parliament in strengthening democracy in their respective countries and ensuring opportunities and development to all the sections of their society. The two sides emphasized the importance of strategic partnership between two countries and expressed willingness to further strengthen it for mutual benefit. The two sides discussed potential of cooperation on the issues such as energy, sugar production, education and health. They also discussed issues of common interest like protection of minority, human rights, law on corporate social responsibility and culture.

 

The Indian Parliamentary delegation also participated in the special program organized by Indian Embassy to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar on 14 April 2016. Speaking at the event, Hon’ble Mr. Ravi Prakash Verma, Leader of Indian Parliamentary delegation recounted the achievements of Dr. Ambedkar who faced immense social and caste discrimination. H.E. Mr. Irman Gusman, Chairman of DPD, who was chief guest on the occasion, applauded unstinted support of Dr. Ambedkar to the cause of woman emancipation, upliftment of poor and marginalized people, education and labour reforms.

 

The Indian Parliamentary delegation will proceed to Bali on 16 April 2016 where the delegation will stay before leaving for India on 18 April 2016.
