India Culture Week : Indian Film Festival in Bandung

(30 December 2017 – 5 January 2018)


Embassy of India in Jakarta along with Regional Government of Bandung is organizing the Indian Film Festival in De Majestic Theatre Bandung from 30 December 2017 to 5 January 2018. Established in 1925 De Majestic is the oldest theatre in Bandung.



The Indian Film Festival in Bandung was inaugurated jointly by H.E. Pradeep Kumar Rawat, Ambassador of India, and Ms. Atalia Kamil, spouse of Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil. In her brief speech, Ms. Kamil said that she loves Bollywood movies as it had a song for every occasion. Ambassador Rawat said that the Indian movies are popular as they portray varied emotions which even foreigners can relate to.


The festival began with screening of ‘English Vinglish’. About 150 fans of Indian movies from Bandung and neighboring area watched the inaugural show of the festival. The festival will continue till 5 January 2018 and some of India’s latest Bollywood hits like Tanu Weds Manu; Love Aaj Kal; Peepli Live; Barfi; Hum Aapke Hain Kaun; and Rock On will be screened in the festival. The movies have been dubbed in Bahasa Indonesia and are being screened in partnership Zee TV.


It may be noted that apart from Indian Film Festival, the India Culture Week celebrations includes Visit India Tourism Seminar at Savoy Hotel, Indian Food Festival at Hotel Savoy, and Photo Exhibition on India-Indonesia friendship at recently opened Bandung Creative Hub. There will be grand Indian cultural event with Bollywood performances on the eve of New Year.  While the Tourism Seminar and the cultural event conclude the same day, the Indian Food Festival, Indian Film Festival and the Photo Exhibition on India-Indonesia friendship would continue till 5 January 2018. 


It is expected that with this series of events under India Culture Week, a better appreciation of Indian art, culture and tourism would develop in the minds of Bandung people.
