External Affairs Minister meets Indonesian Foreign Minister

 

External Affairs Minister (EAM) Smt. Sushma Swaraj met Indonesian Foreign Minister Ms. Retno Marsudi in a pull aside meeting on 20 September 2017 on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UNGA in New York, to discuss Rohingya issue. Ms. Retno Marsudi called for greater coordination between India and Indonesia to help Bangladesh and Myanmar in this crisis saying that continued exodus of Rohingyas from Rakhine due to Myanmar’s actions could destabilize the whole region. She appreciated India’s humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh through operation Insaniyat. EAM briefed Ms. Retno Marsudi about Prime Minister’s meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi on 6 September 2017 and reiterated that India was willing to step up assistance to Myanmar Government for development activities in Rakhine. EAM also referred to Aung San Suu Kyi’s address to the nation whereby she expressed willingness to implement the recommendations of the Kofi Annan Commission. Ms. Retno Marsudi briefed EAM about her recent meeting with the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Army.
