 Visit of H.E. Ambassador of India and Indian Business Delegation to Timor Leste

 

 H.E. Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat, Ambassador of India to Republic of Indonesia and Democratic Republic of Timor Leste visited Dili from 20-22 August, 2018, leading a 6-member Indian business delegation representing education, health, energy and transportation sectors.

 

On 20 August, Ambassador and the accompanying Indian delegation visited the National University of Timor Leste (UTL) and held discussions with the Prof. Doutor Francisco Miguel Martins, Rector of UTL on raising the level of engagement in education sector, including through an MOU covering faculty and curriculum exchange, double degree programs etc., Ambassador drew the attention of the Faculty of UTL to the scholarship programmes made available by Government of India to Timor Leste through the Indian Technical Exchange Cooperation programme and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and urged for maximum utilization of the same through adequate publicity among the Timorese nationals. Later in the evening, there was a briefing session at the UN House in Dili by UN Resident Representative, UNDP Country Director, Representative of ADB and Director of Tradeinvest Timor Leste on the general state of Timor Leste Economy, developmental priorities of the new government and possibilities for cooperation and investments in various sectors

On 21 August, Ambassador called on H.E. Dr Francisco Guterres Lu Olo, President of Timor Leste and H.E. Mr Taur Matan Ruak, Prime Minister of Timor Leste and reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations with a view to explore possibilities of enhanced cooperation in the developmental goals of Timor Leste. Discussions with H.E. President of Timor Leste included facilitating early opening of Embassy of Timor Leste in New Delhi and possibility of early entry of Timor Leste into the International Solar Alliance. Ambassador also called on H.E. Ms. Elia Antonio de Araujo dos Reis Amaral, and H.E. Mr Bonifacio Maukoli dos Reis, Vice Ministers of Health where various facets of engagement in health sector were discussed, including training of medical and para medical personnel through deputation of experts, assistance in establishment of medical facilities in Timor Leste, supply of cost effective generic drugs and providing affordable medical treatment facilities for Timorese nationals in India.

 

On 21st August, the accompanying Indian business delegation had detailed discussions with the Timor Leste Chamber of Commerce (CCI) and B2B meetings with Timorese counterparts from a cross section of sectors.

 

Ambassador also had a one-to-one meeting with H.E. Ambassador Isilio Coelho, Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Cooperation and reviewed the current state of India-Timor Leste relations, including the possibilities of enhanced cooperation in political, economic and security sectors

.

A condolence book was opened at Dili, Timor Leste on the demise of former Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which was signed by representatives of Timor Leste Government, Diplomats and Indian Community in Dili.
