PRESS RELEASE


1.The Embassy of India organised an exclusive India Bazaar at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural entre (JNICC) Jakarta premises under the title “ Bharat Mela’ today.

2. The two day Bharat Mela was jointly inaugurated by H.E. Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat, Ambassador of India and Mr. Dadang Solihin, Deputy Governor for Culture and Tourism DKI. The event was attended by Ambassadors from the Diplomatic corps based in Jakarta and the Head of the Cultural Centers of different Embassies, alongwith other dignitaries. 
3. The event showcased the arts, handicrafts, cultural heritage and cuisines of different states of India. Nine Indian states viz Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Telengana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujrat and West Bengal had opened their pavilions and displayed state specific cultural products. The items displayed by West Bengal pavilion were sarees such as Tant, Baluchari, Kantha stitch, Jamdani, along with terracota clay and brass handicrafts Traditional sweets of Bengal like Rasgulla, mishti doi etc were also sold. The Tamil Nadu stall showcased Tanjore Paintings, Tanjore Doll (dancing dolls), Kanchipuram sarees, jewellery of Bharatnatyam dancers and Hindu God Idols made of copper. Maharashtra did an exhibition on the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj - the unique mountain forts and typical headgear worn by his soldiers. They also had traditional folk dance items like "Lezim". Traditional Maharashtrian foods like Misal Pav, Vada Pav etc were sold. Gujarat had on display Ghagra choli, Bandhani cotton sarees and Gujarati jewellery. Rajasthan displayed Bandhej and Lehariya sarees and kundan jewellery. The Karnataka stall displayed sarees of various speciality of Darwad, Ilkal and Mysore, carved wooden miniatures of Mysore Dasara procession and sandalwood incense sticks

4. Food stalls were also opened by the states where live demonstration of food from different states were made. The food stalls were visited by large number Indian food connoisseurs. 

5. A painting exhibition curated by local Indian community women painters was also organised on the sidelines of the two day event which will be open for public viewing at the JNICC till 6 December, 2019 and is expected to be visited by hundreds of guests during this period. The paintings displayed focussed on Indian Art forms and motifs.

6. The Indonesian Postal Department (PT Pos Indonesia) also set up a personalized philately Photo Booth where personalised photo stamps marking 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and India and 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi were issued.

7. The event was organized as part of the ongoing celebration of 70th Anniversary of India-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations and aimed to promote better understanding of Indian arts, culture and cuisine amongst the Indonesian audiences.

8. The Bharat Mela is expected to be attended by more than 1000 visitors over today and tomorrow. During the concluding finale performance tomorrow, a bumper prize of return air fare ticket to India sponsored by Thai Airways will be handed over to the winner.
