Indian diaspora expresses support to International Day of Yoga

A meeting of Executive members of various Indian cultural organizations was held at the Embassy of India auditorium on 28th March 2015 to discuss organization of International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2015 and Sahabat India events in coming months. The meeting was presided by H.E. Mr. Gurjit Singh, Ambassador of India to Indonesia and Timor Leste. The Indian Cultural Forum established by the Embassy of India in 2012 brings all NRI/PIO organizations together.

Mr. Gurjit Singh, Ambassador, addressed the cultural forum members and briefed them about ‘Sahabat India – The Festival of India in Indonesia’ and new initiatives launched by the Government of India recently such as International Day of Yoga, Make in India, Digital India and Swachch Bharat. Ambassador exhorted Indian community to support Embassy in propagation and promotion of new initiatives of Government of India and said that the positive image of India and their prospects were interlinked. All executive committee members supported celebration of the first International Yoga Day on June 21, 2015 and to organize the event in a grand manner. It was also decided that the Indian Cultural Associations will celebrate International Yoga Day in various cities across Indonesia with the support of Indian diaspora to attract Indonesian participation. The International Day of Yoga will be the concluding event of “Sahabat India – The Festival of India in Indonesia”.

A Central Executive Committee (CEC) consisting of members of all the Indian cultural organizations and representatives of Indian Embassy has been formed to organize the International Day of Yoga in Jakarta on June 21, 2015. The CEC will be presided by the Ambassador and will coordinate the implementation of International Yoga Day in Jakarta and other cities of Indonesia.
