The Forum aims to foster closer engagement between different stakeholders from India and Indonesia in pharmaceutical sector. The high level speakers invited to the Forum will share their views on Pharmaceutical Regulatory and Registration system in Indonesia, Investment opportunities in Healthcare sector, Ecosystem and Health Transformation towards Health Resiliency etc. Indian pharmaceuticals sector has made considerable advancements in the last 2 decades, Indonesia has also recently initiated healthcare reforms by passing the Health Omnibus Law. There lie ample opportunities for fostering closerhealthcare partnership since both countries have similar experiences and challenges, being emerging economies with large populations. Indian pharmaceutical companies are ready to explore Indonesia as an investment destination to expand their business in ASEAN which finds synergy with Indonesia’s downstreaming policies. Indian pharmaceutical companies can help reach Indonesia’s goal of reducing dependence on importedAPIs, thereby bringing possibilities of enhancing quality medical treatment at affordable prices.

Closer cooperation in healthcare has recently received an impetus during G20 Ministerial meetings where Indonesian Health Minister H.E. Mr. Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Indian Health Minister Shri Mansukh Mandaviya met each other several times. The two ministers share similar visions for promoting bilateral healthcare cooperation and have developed a close bond over these interactions. Minister Budi visited 'Jan Aushadhi Kendra' in Gandhinagar, Gujarat while visiting India to attend the  G20 Health Ministers' meeting under G20 India Presidency in August 2023. Minister Budi said “I want to give the best medicines to my people in Indonesia. I have seen many models of different countries, and India's Jan Aushadhi Kendra model is the best in the world in terms of providing quality, accessibility and affordability of medicines to the people”.

Taking this idea forward, the CEO of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), Mr. Ravi Dadhich will also be participating in virtual mode to share India’s experiences of "Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana" (PMBJP) [People’s Medicine Program], the objective of which is to provide the highest quality healthcare to every citizen of India.

India and Indonesia are Comprehensive Strategic Partners since 2018 with Health being one of the focus areas. Through this Business Forum, it is hoped to create greater awareness among the Indian Pharmaceutical companies about the opportunities in Indonesia and the regulatory and investment related policies. It is also hoped that the Forum can help initiate meaningful discussions at both B2G and B2B levels by greater stakeholder engagement and result in tangible company collaborations in the near future, thereby contributing to the Indonesia Emas 2045 objectives.
